You will complete our online pre-screen and application in order to collect all of the information we will need to create your profile. You will then participate in an intake call with our team to review the process, discuss your application, and answer any questions you may have. We are looking for a history of healthy pregnancies, a supportive home environment and physical and emotional readiness for surrogacy.
After the initial intake call, we will request your pregnancy and delivery records from any and all previous pregnancies for review. We will use these records to confirm your eligibility based on ASRM guidelines. During this step, we will also clarify your insurance details so we can ensure that you have the proper coverage for your surrogacy journey.
A criminal background check will be conducted for you and any other adult living in your home. Once we receive the results, you will have a virtual or inperson home visit with a member of our team. We want to ensure a safe, stable, and emotionally healthy environment for you and your family during this journey.
You and your partner (if applicable) will meet with a mental health professional that specializes in surrogacy. They will help prepare you and your family for the surrogacy process, provide you with resources, and start the important conversations surrounding your goals and matching requirements for your journey. They want to make sure you are emotionally and psychologically prepared for the entire process.
Now you’re ready for a preliminary match with intended parents! We will introduce profiles of intended parents that align with your goals for the journey. At Surrogacy Pathway, we believe in mutual matching to ensure a healthy and rewarding relationship throughout. Once you have selected a profile, we will set up a meeting between all parties. We facilitate open discussions, and clear expectations in order to give you the space and support to decide if the match feels right.
Once the match is finalized, you will complete your medical screening at the intended parents’ fertility clinic. You will meet with their physician, have a physical exam, complete labs and infectious disease testing, have an ultrasound, and possibly complete a mock embryo transfer cycle. You will also have a review of the embryo transfer process and medications.
Once the fertility doctor gives you medical clearance, you will be connected with an attorney in order to begin the contracting process. You will review and sign a Gestational Carrier Agreement that outlines compensation, medical care and responsibilities, parental rights, and confidentiality and communication guidelines. Once all parties have signed the agreement, you will be issued legal clearance.
The intended parents’ fertility clinic will coordinate your embryo transfer cycle along with our team. You will take medications to prepare your uterus for the transfer, attend local monitoring appointments to check your hormone levels and measure your uterine lining, and travel to the fertility clinic for the embryo transfer procedure. After the transfer, you will stay local to the intended parents’ clinic for a few days of bed rest before returning home. You will return to local monitoring for pregnancy confirmation and bloodwork.
If pregnancy is confirmed, your early pregnancy will be monitored and overseen by the intended parents’ physician until you reach 10 weeks of pregnancy. From there, you will graduate from the fertility clinic and continue your care at your local OBGYN. You will attend routine prenatal appointments and keep in touch with the intended parents. We will provide ongoing emotional support, care coordination and case management throughout your pregnancy.
When it’s time to deliver, the intended parents are often present at the hospital to welcome their baby. Specific arrangements will be discussed prior to your due date. Delivery takes place at the hospital of your choice as allowed by insurance and state laws. After birth, you will recover with postpartum support and receive final compensation and any additional reimbursements. We stay connected because your wellbeing matters to us beyond delivery.
